So, I spoke too soon yesterday. Maybe an hour after I posted my "yay-we-are-done-with-the-flu-I-should-really-have-kept-my-mouth-closed-blog-post", Evan woke up from his nap, and we went running for the bathroom. The good news was that we made it to the bathroom, the not-so-great news was the kids' bathroom needed a thorough cleaning after Evan was done (it could have been worse, and I'm thankful for that!). I guess I feel like we have been over-due for the flu since last year we all skated through the winter season without getting sick (remember all the H1N1 hype?!?). Anyway, hopefully it's only one round and we're done!
On to the fun stuff... I forgot to post this last week ~ I had put one of the videos into a blog post, but never got around to adding the 2nd one...
We are signing Avery up for gymnastics as soon as we can...

the post Christmas haze
Everyone but Evan got the flu for Christmas this year, so we are just now getting ourselves out of the haze of having the ickies, and we're feeling a little better...
...hope you and yours had a wonderful Christmas!

10 on 2sday
1. Sunday was a fluke. The past 2 days, nap time has been more fun as play time... naps don't last as long, or come as easily... *sigh*
2. The girls have been very interested in the alphabet, including trying to sound out the letters. (LOVE The Letter Factory) ~ but the cutest quote from Avery, "A-B-C-D-E-F-JESUS"
3. Colors are also on our list-of-things-to-learn, so we talk about colors a lot. And my Mom would be happy to know that without any prompting or help, Avery ran past a pile of my stuff, stopped, looked, and said "purple" (well, pupuh) when she saw a purple envelope on the pile.
4. Brynn likes to be my little helper, and last week when I "let" her help me with the laundry, she made it her job to blow on the clothes because they were still warm coming right out of the dryer.
5. We celebrated an early Christmas with my parents a couple weekends ago and my Mom got me a kitchen-aid mixer!! I've only been drooling over one of those FOREVER!!! Yay, Mom! It's been put to good use already!!
6. This happened a few weeks ago, but kind of out of the blue at dinner, Evan blurted out; "In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy EXPERIMENT."
7. I used to laugh when I'd hear people talking about their kids running around naked because they don't like to keep their clothes on... well, now it's not so funny, because that seems to be the route Avery is going. It started with just the shoes & socks, then it moved to the pants, then she figured out how to get one arm out of her shirts, and last week it turned into the diaper. Not. funny. It just so happened to be the same day that I read this post from another blog I read... and that may be the route I go to keep her diaper on!
8. I got to watch my friends' almost-4-month-old yesterday for a little bit, and he's adorable, and the kids love him, although I'm not sure he appreciated the pats on the head as much...
9. We took the kids to a Christmas puppet show a couple weeks ago, and at the end they let the kids meet the puppets and try them on if they'd like. The girls were totally mesmerized by the puppets, but weren't too sure about getting close to them... Evan on the other hand - all about it!
10. I don't condone this behavior. Nor do I encourage it by film.ing.it... whoops...

It's SNOW!
I'm a bit behind posting this... but in early December when we finally saw our first stick-on-the-ground snow here, we started getting a bit giddy with anticipation...
...so we started working on getting dressed...
...and went outside to enjoy our first snow of the season!
I never took the girls out last year, mostly out oflaziness cheapness not wanting to buy snow suits when they really wouldn't enjoy the snow anyway! So this was their first experience getting to play with the wet white stuff!
Brynn kept trying to shake it off her mittens, not really caring for it at all. Although, she did like to shuffle her feet through it.
Avery wanted to touch it so bad, that I had a hard time getting her to keep her gloves on. It moved from annoying to kinda serious in a matter of about two minutes when I finally gave up and brought everyone back inside 'cause she refused to let me get near her with her glove! By the time we got inside her poor little hand was pretty red and cold!
Evan was so excited to make his first? snow angel. He's probably made one before, I've just never seen it since 2 winters ago I was on bed rest, and last year with the girls so little, we never went out together!
Overall it was worth the 25 minutes to get fully dressed, in order to enjoy the 4 minutes of playing outside!

The Toddler Beds
Like I said on my 10on2sday post, we moved the girls into their toddler beds a couple weekends ago.
Let's just say I wasn't real happy about the move, mostly because it wasn't on our timing, it was on theirs... and I wasn't, and am still not ready for this move.
So... on to Day 1:
We got their beds set up in the morning so we could do a trial run at nap time, and it didn't go well... let me show you:
So we removed all their toys.
That night I think they were so exhausted from not taking a nap, it only took 2 trips into their room to get them to stay there and finally go to sleep.
Day 2:
Nap time wasn't any better than the previous day, minus all the toys scattered around since we had taken them out of their room.
...and we wound up pulling the changing table out when we found them both playing on top of it together!
Day 3, or 4 (I can't remember):
Probably the worst day. They decided to yank everything out of the dresser drawers, and continued to use those drawers as a ladder to reach all the pretty breakable things that I was stupid enough to keep on top of their dresser....
...the dresser got turned around and the breakable things removed, and while we were at it, we figured a way to keep them out of their closet as well:
A week later:
Nap times are still challenging, but on top of that, Brynn started to lay down behind the door and fall asleep at night. I don't know if she decided she doesn't like her bed, or if she's trying to peek under the door and listen to what's going on outside...
This was a day I forgot to clip the closet door closed and of course they figured it out and pulled their diaper bag out and started rifling through it...
We knew it would take some time, and eventually they'll get it, and I can go back to a less-stressful nap time and bed time routine (in my dream world) ~ but I will admit it was pretty cute to see them both peacefully sleeping together in the same bed one night, although not cute enough for me to leave them that way!
Two weeks in:
Today was the first day I didn't have to go into the girls room at nap time and tell them to get back in their beds. It might be a fluke, or maybe they are just used to the new beds now? Either way, I'll take it when I can get it!!

10 on 2sday
1. We discovered light switches last week...
2. Evan has discovered door locks. So now he randomly locks and unlocks doors around the house. *sigh*
3. Brynn likes to wipe. Everything. Her nose. The dog. Her toys. Her bottom area as we are changing a messy diaper, and her nose again right after...
4. We discovered toddler beds a couple weekends ago (I'll write more later, but here is a sneak peek of how it's been going...)
5. We discovered there is just enough room under Avery's bed for the kids to crawl under...
6. We finally had our first snow a couple weeks ago (and a lot more since then), and I've got some cute pictures to share, eventually, but here is a cute shot of the anticipation and excitement!
7. This is just too darn cute not to share:
8. Since it's too cold to go outside these days, we decided indoor picnics would have to do...
9. Avery is attempting to start a new fashion trend:
(or she just really hates having clothes on that arm)

Christmas Traditions
The Christmas Chain
Last year I started doing a Christmas chain with Evan, in the hopes that he would stop pestering me with... "is it Christmas yet? Is it Christmas yet?" This year we did it again, and got the girls involved a little bit!
Elf on the Shelf
This is our first year with the Elf on the Shelf, and I must say, this is the perfect year (4-1/2) to introduce it ~ Evan is TOTALLY into this. And I must admit, the past two days that our little "Santa Spy" has been with us, has gone much more smoothly... and Evan named her "Nare". Now I just need to figure out a way to incorporate this concept year-round!
MOM Christmas Party
Last year was our first year going to our Mothers Of Multiples (MOM) Christmas party, and of course Santa and Mrs. Claus are there! So, this year we went again and Evan was SO excited to see Santa that he just about knocked over the kids that were finishing up in front of us to get on his lap!
Brynn... not so much...
But she was ok sitting on Dan's lap, so we at least got one picture of the kids not flipping out!!
Santa's beard...
I'm not sure if this is actually going to stick around as a tradition or not, but Evan's preschool class did these and took them home. It's a cute idea, and Evan loves gluing the cotton ball on every morning!
What are some of your favorite traditions??
